Tarra and Bella are best friends.  It's not unusual to have a best friend, but some think this inseparable couple is unusual.  That's because Tarra is an 8,700 pound Asian elephant and Bella, well she's a dog.  The friends eat, play, and sleep together at The Elephant Sanctuary in Hohenwald, Tennessee.  According to the sanctuary's founder, Carol Buckley, Tarra and Bella have been close for years.  But no one knew just how close until a few months ago when Bella suffered a spinal cord injury.  She was immobile, unable to walk or even move her legs or wag her tail.  For three weeks Bella lay motionless in the sanctuary office, and for three weeks Tarra held vigil outside.  With 2,700 acres to roam, Tarra didn't budge from her spot outside the office, looking and waiting for her friend.  Bella has now recuperated, and the friends are together again, playing, eating, strolling, and passing the time of day.  It just goes to show you -- best friends come in all shapes and sizes!
