I have two dogs and three neighbors' cats. My one dog is older, 11 years, and I am interested in anything to help make her golden years easier for her. The other dog is around six and is full of fun. I love this web site and look forward to more articles.
Thank you

Hey Eunice, I too have neighbors pets that I play with constantly. None of my own just yet. Within a few months I am planning on getting a female boxer, pretty excited. Then I wouldn't have to rely on playing with my neighbors pets for funtime. Were you a "Greeney" treat giver to your dog?

You're just too funny. I use to give milk bones to the same neighbors dog every day. One day I found a typed note on the fence thanking me for my kindness, but letting me know they were both on a diet . . . signed the two dogs. Anyway, I would post a picture but I would like to wait until Tina takes off a few pounds. I'm afraid that someone may make a cartoon out of her if I were to post her picture now. You sound like an animal lover, hold on, soon you will have your own. Best of luck!

Hey Eunice Avery
Why's your dog so big? Maybe that's why your neighbors didn't want you to feed
their dogs . Annnnnyyyyway, you sound like a kind soul, so just remember they will love you regardless of your treats ( or lack of.) From one who knows.

I have a geriatric crew of one Sheltie, one Bassett yellow lab mix, one DSH cat and then there are the three ferrel kittens who took up residence under my detached garage.

I believe I need some help. My partner has a new cat in her life. The cat, Angel, belongs to our neighbors but seems to love our back yard better. The problem is we have two dogs that are not cat friendly and I fear that Angel will get hurt. How do I socialize our dogs to get along with the cat or if the cat happens to get into there space so they will not hurt her. Thank you for your help.

Best tip don't allow your dogs to be with the cat unattended. Work with taking your dogs out and making them focus on you or toys not the cat, make the dogs ignore the cat. Do not respond with soothing voices to leave the cat alone, use a strong stern No and direct their attention elsewhere. Reward your dogs only when they are ignoring the feline.

I agree to never let them all be alone together. However, it's good to work on getting them accustomed to each other just in case the dogs do accidentally get out while the cat's in the yard. I would agree with Lesley, and maybe do it one dog at a time. Let us know what happens.

We had a Yorkie when I was a kid. She was a toy (only five pounds maybe) and was such a love bug. Someday I would like to get another. So cute.
