Fortunately, we are all becoming more aware of things we can do to help the environmentas well as our animals.  Here are some things you can do.

Use Biodegradable Bags for Your Dog's Poop

Of course, just picking up after your dog helps the neighborhood and the planet.  Then by using biodegradable bags you're helping even more.

Don't Use Pesticides on Your Pet or in Your Yard

As much as possible, try to use natural flea and tick repellents on your dog and cat.  As alternatives to the harsh pesticides and insecticides in some products, just bathing with certain natural products often is enough to keep these pesky creatures away.  Regular bathing (for some that's every two weeks) in the summer months may be enough.  Please try to avoid pesticides and insecticides which contain harmful chemicals to you, your pet, and the enironment on your lawn or in your yard. 

Use Biodegradable, Natural Cat Litter

An alternative to regular cat litter is corn-based, which means it's biodegradable and natural and makes it safer for you, your cat, and the environment.  Here's a great example.  Watch the Video about this product.

Get Pet Beds Made Out of Recycled and/or Organic Materials

Using recycled materials as fillers keeps these materials out of our landfills.  These products are becoming more and more popular and besides being safe have great designs.  Using organic products are, of course, great for your pets.  Check out these examples.  

Buy Eco-Friendly Pet Toys

Many companies are making great toys made out of organic, nontoxic, and recycled materials.  You're treating your pet and the environment at the same time!

Please visit a shelter or rescue the next time you're thinking about adding a new family member.  There are already so many animals in need of a loving home.  And please remember to always spay and neuter.
